SafeLives responds to the 2019 general election result

13th December 2019

During the general election, we stood alongside colleagues from the children’s sector, domestic abuse sector and most importantly survivors, to call for a full spectrum of properly funded domestic abuse services for the whole family. Hundreds of candidates signed our pledge.

We welcome the Conservative manifesto commitment to pass the Domestic Abuse Bill. However, the Bill as it currently stands will not transform the response to domestic abuse victims unless it includes a statutory duty on local government to commission a full spectrum of specialist services for the whole family, accompanied by the funding required to ensure the right support is available for everyone who needs it, wherever they live.

We look forward to working with MPs from all parties to make sure this Bill delivers the change that adult and child victims of domestic abuse so urgently need.
